Freelancer and Wing

Freelancer is a pilot that has not joined or created a wing. Because a freelancer is not fighting for a wing, he/she cannot perform his job as mercenary pilot.

Wing is the organization of mercenary pilots serving one employer and one nation. Wing members must obey their employer and can not harm other members of the wing. A wing receives support from its employer and can be in war with other wings. Wings can be created by any freelancers meeting the requirements for becoming Commanding Officer. Command of the wing can be abdicated to another pilot that is a wing member. Mercenary pilot joining a wing are contracted by the employer through the Wing.

Create Wing

Any freelancer pilot has no wing can create his/her own wing freely if he/she meets some requirements. The pilot thereby contracted by the nation requiring a mercenary force and becomes the CO (Command Officer or Wing Commander) himself/herself. One wing can have a maximum of 10-20 pilots, depending on game server settings, including the Commander.

Join Wing

Freelancers can join any open wing freely if there is room. For restricted wings the pilot has to apply, the Commander will accept or deny admission to the wing. Commanders can also invite freelancers to join.

Leave Wing

You can leave your wing whenever you want, however you must have been in the wing for more than 30 minutes. After leaving you do not receive support anymore from the wing and become a freelancer. A wing commander that wants to leave his/her wing must first abdicate command to another member. The pilot must first accept command, before command is transferred and the previous CO can leave the wing. When a wing has only one member(you) you cannot leave the wing.

Wing Officer

A wing commander appoint other wing member to the post of wing officer.

  • Wing Commander (CO)

Commander can dismiss lazy or disobeying members from the wing and abdicate his or her position to other wing members and appoint responsible wing members to the post of wing officer and give the Wing Commendatory Medal to good wing members.

  • Vice Commander (VCO)

VCO has same power as CO, except he/she cannot dismiss CO.

  • Finance Officer (FO)

Finance Officer can set the rate of tax collected from all wing members for their wing and buy equipments for wing and pay ransom for members in prison of enemy's wing.

  • Tactic Officer (TO)

Tactic Officer can specify the defense sector to wing members. Wing pilot is flying into the defense sector when he or she is taking off. And Tactic Officer can write Black List and assign the mission.

  • Defense Officer (DO)

DO can buy defensive systems for each sector.

Wing Finance

Some percentage of the payments to wing members (hourly wage) can be collected as tax for income to their wing. Only Finance Officer can set the rate of tax. If wing has no Finance Officer the tax rate is 0%. Income for the wing also comes from tax collected from Residences by Government Buildings. Both need to be built and protected by the wing. Any wing member can donate a limited amount of his/her credits to the wing.

Wing Equipment

The Wing can procure support or strategic assets to improve the effectiveness and support of wing members. Only the Finance Officer can buy wing equipment.

- can be shot down by enemies, automatically replaced by factory.
KC-135 Stratotanker
- makes re-fueling in air possible, but only in the wing's airspace.
- takes off automatically when a wing member is airborne over the wing.
- can be shot by enemies
Repair Center

- allows wing members to repair aircraft for no fee.
- can be bombed/destroyed by enemies
HH-60 PaveHawk
- increases the probability of rescue when a pilot is lost his or her aircraft.
Hospital
- reduces the recovery time of injured pilots.
- can be bombed/destroyed by enemies
KeyHole-11
- Surveillance satellite. It allows to view other wing's infrastructure information.
GPS Satellites
- GPS stands for Global Positioning System. It makes GPS guided weapons very accurate. Without GPS they are less accurate, but can still be deployed against the target.
Airborne Early Warning

- enables AEW aircraft production (factory needed in sector), which provides radar, informs patrolling wingmen of bogeys, and increases computer aircraft accuracy when present in sector.

Diplomacy and Identification Friend or Foe

Wings can ally other wings or designate other wings as enemy. In addition to the CO and VCO, the Tactic Officer can set allies/enemies.

Aircraft belonging to your wing will appear in blue text and are called Friendly.
Aircraft belonging to allied wing will appear in green text and are called Ally.
Aircraft belonging to other wings will appear in yellow text and are called Bogey.
Aircraft belonging to enemy wings will appear in red text and are called Bandit.

When an ally or bogey turns hostile, these do not change until the wing of the offending pilot is designated as enemy wing.

Air Defense System

Concept:

Each air defense system has a certain altitude range in which it can successfully engage and destroy a target. For example the SA-2 missile is designed to intercept aircraft flying at a medium to high altitude. It would be unable to engage low flying aircraft. The same goes pretty much for the aircraft. Some aircraft are designed for low altitude and others for flying very high. For example the A-10 is designed for flying at low altitude. In the new system the SA-2 would be able to hit the B-52 but not the A-10. However the A-10 would be vulnerable to the ZSU-23 anti aircraft artillery, whereas the B-52 would simply be out of reach.

To see at which altitude the air defense system performs best, looks at the added data in the defense structure table. To know at which altitude your aircraft will be vulnerable to air defenses, look at the altitude in the aircraft information screen at McCoy.

System:

Aircraft have preset mission/flight profiles in terms of altitude. They are classified as ultra high(UH), high(H), medium(M) or low(L) altitude flying.

Wing Radar

Surveillance of the wing's airspace is provided by radar stations and/or AEW aircraft. Radar stations need to be built by the wing and are powered by a functional power plant in the sector. AEW aircraft are produced by functioning factories when enabled by the Finance Officer.

The Wing Radar uses one of four Radar Bands. Aircraft jamming the radar band can be detected but not tracked or identified. Stealth aircraft are not detected or seen by the radar stations or AEW aircraft, and therefore do not show on Wing Radar. When a target is detected, the type of aircraft is identified by signature and IFF is performed, the information is displayed on the Wing Radar. When a target is detected as bogey or enemy, the Scramble light is lit up.
